Local Entrepreneurs Forum for Frome launch @ The Silk Mill | England | United Kingdom

This is an event organised by Edventure Frome.

Local Entrepreneurs Forum: Citizen-led Economic Change for Frome

What if…our entire community could get together to support local, social, sustainable entrepreneurial projects? What if we could build an entire ecosystem of support around the types of initiatives we want to see flourish in our town?

Join our Community of Green, Friendly Dragons

Join us for an evening of connection, celebration and solidarity. We’ll share local food, enjoy music from the streets of Frome, and come together to “invest” in local start-ups or enterprises that need our help to grow.

Entrepreneurs need all kinds of support. Financial capital is important, but so are other forms of support, from skills, networks and workspace, to child care.

We all have a stake in our local economy and we can be all be investors, too.

Entrepreneurs supported by the community do better. The local economy does better too. Everyone has a say and a part to play in the kind of economy they want to see in Frome and the world. You can, of course, invest money, but also your time, resources, skills, enthusiasm, and any other kind of support!

Tickets are available at £10 or £5 (you choose).

Your ticket includes a delicious, locally-sourced dinner. But every penny of your ticket price will actually go straight to the enterprises pitching on the evening.

5pm: Doors open. Local Music. Local bar.

6.00 Why you are a Dragon – and an introduction to the LEF (host TBC).

6.30 Dinner – and informal round table discussions

7.30 Local Band

7.45 Commnunity of Dragons – Presentations & is there anything that you want to invest?

9.15 Stay for another drink if you like…

The LEF is hosted by Edventure: Frome, working in partnership with Frome Town Council and The REconomy Network. It is part of a global grassroots movement seeking to strengthen our resilience to today’s challenges, and develop a movement for something better.

Pitch at the LEF?

We are seeking 4-5 entrepreneurs to to pitch their projects to the Community of Dragons. This is a great opportunity to raise the profile of your venture, as well as to gain financial and or/non-financial investment and support. Our criteria for choosing which ventures pitch:

  • enterprise is ethical, sustainable and appropriately local
  • demonstrates competence through business plan and/or track record
  • business model does not rely on donations or grant funding
  • ‘investment’ required would allow venture to ‘get to the next level’ – investment could be financial and/or non-financial
  • contributes to the long-term resilience of the community
  • one slot is reserved for a youth-led enterprise.

If you’re not sure, please join our Good Business Bootcamp on Thu 21 May. It’s designed to stimulate, inspire, and support you as you develop your business concept, and maybe even to help you prepare to pitch! If you are would like to pitch, please email a short summary of your start-up idea / enterprise to Johannes Moeller, Managing Director at Edventure

Get Involved?

We welcome people to help us make this happen – either in advance, or on the day. Please email us at Please also follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to get updates.

What do you mean by financial / non-financial investment?

Non-financial investment could include providing time, networking help, workspace, and other goods or services – either voluntary or in return for goods or other exchanges.

Financial investment could include offering a loan or money in return for equity – investors can pledge their support at the meeting, and will then follow up afterwards to arrange their own terms and conduct their own due diligence.

Is there an age limit for the event? Do I need ID?

No age limit for the event, and no ID required! Just please remember that alcohol will only be sold to those over 18.

What should I bring with me to the event? What should I *not* bring?

Please do bring your sense of community, the will to make things better by creating a Community Supported Local Economy, offers of spare cash, expertise, skills, time, support, hugs… Oh, and your friends! We’d love to see them all there. You may not bring saboteurs, cynics, or drugs.

What if I have more questions and want to talk to someone?

Please feel free to email us at or call on 07548 014066

I can’t come anymore. Is my ticket transferrable?

Yes – simply email us and tell us who’s coming instead of you.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No need! We will have a list of names we will be ticking off and possibly stamping your hand too.

What is the refund policy?

Unfortunately we don’t have the resources to support refunds. If you can’t come why not find a keen local friend who can?

The name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay?

Not really – we’d prefer you to let us know if someone else is going to use your ticket. They will need to bring the printed ticket to verify that they have one. We will ask for names and contact details on the door.
